TINQ — The Judge’s Garden of Tnine Amellou

TINQ by Fondation Dar Si Hmad — Tibhirt nel Lqadi. Community-led cactus regeneration using biological pest control and fog-harvested water. Zero pesticides. 100% natural. Rooted in Amazigh heritage and collective stewardship.

The Cactus Crisis — And Our Response

TINQ — Tibhirt nel Lqadi — means “The Judge’s Garden” in Amazigh, referring to its 18th-century heritage as the property of a local judge. In Amazigh, TINQ also means “yours,” symbolizing the community-centered nature of this initiative. The project transforms this historically significant, community-donated plot in Tnine Amellou into a communal garden, irrigated sustainably with fog-harvested water and cultivated collectively, serving as both a source of livelihood and a symbol of shared stewardship.

Our 5 Goals for Cactus Regeneration

Five interconnected goals drive the TINQ project — from sustainable water access to economic resilience for the communities of Tnine Amellou.

Sustainable Water Access

Fog-harvesting connected directly to TINQ for agricultural irrigation — no aquifer depletion, no chemicals, no environmental harm.

Revitalized Cactus Agriculture

No pesticides. Biodiversity-positive practices rebuilding Opuntia cactus populations destroyed by the mealybug infestation.

Enhanced Biodiversity

Rebuilding ecosystems damaged by pesticide overuse and water scarcity — restoring natural balance to the Anti-Atlas landscape.

Community Resilience & Training

Technical training in regenerative practices for local farmers — building skills, confidence, and community self-sufficiency.

Economic Stability

Reintroducing cactus farming as a viable and sustainable income source for the communities of the Ait Baamrane region.
